Do you have an interest in Criminal Justice and Social Work issues? Do you want to make a positive difference in your community? The Orem Victims Assistance Program is a great opportunity for you to get real world experience and gain new skills as you work as an advocate for victims of crime and gain a better understanding of the parameters of the legal system. If you are interested, please contact Renee Flitton (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Duties include advising victims of their rights and any resources that are available; attending court with them or passing on information about proceedings; assisting with restitution; and helping with victim impact statements, protective orders, stalking injunctions and safety plans. Domestic violence cases are probably most common, but the victim assistance program also helps with cases involving robbery, assault, elder abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, and homicide.
