VA 1VA 2VA 3VA 4
The Veterans Rural Health Resource Center-Western Region is located at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The mission of center is to improve access and quality of care for Veterans by developing evidence-based policies and innovative practices to support the unique needs of Veterans residing in rural and highly rural areas. Much of the work of the center focuses on outreach, access issues, and the special needs of Aging Veterans.

The Resource Center is developing a sourcebook summarizing data about aging Veterans living in rural areas, where they live or are expected to live, and the services in place to assist them. The sourcebook will report on sociodemographics, healthcare, eligibility, enrollment, and VA/public resources related to older rural Veterans.

A practicum student involved with this project will play a key role in developing the sourcebook:

  • Review of VA and public data sources via the Internet
  • Literature searches in PubMed and other literature databases
  • Data synthesis and summary
  • Developing charts, graphs, maps, etc. to convey findings
  • Report writing
  • Preparing oral presentations of sourcebook information
