  • Packaging documents into presentable/usable fashion to be distributed electronically to Global Partners
  • Short-term projects with quick deadlines
  • attend weekly team conference calls (if their schedule allows) [Prior interns were able to gain understanding of global business issues when they would get on our team calls and hear our General Managers talk about their business challenges in:  South Africa, Kenya, Hungary, Poland, China, Singapore, Indonesia, and so on]

Strengthening Families Program – Volunteer Opportunity

GREAT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY – 4 hours per week (no credit necessary)

Strengthening Families Program
Help facilitate positive communication over dinner and train families in improving their relationships.
There are 5 sites where the program is held:
Lakeridge Junior High, Orem – Tuesdays 5:30-8 pm
Lehi Junior High. Lehi- Tuesdays 5:30- 8 pm
Pleasant Grove Junior High – Wednesdays 5:30- 8 pm
Orem High School-  Thursdays 6-8:30 pm
Timpanogos High School, Orem – Thursdays 6-8:30 pm   

Volunteers teach the curriculum as facilitators within the program. There are currently volunteer positions available. If you’re interested in participating in the program or would like more information you can contact:

Title: 2-1-1 Outreach Specialist

United Way 2-1-1 Helpline is a comprehensive source for community resources, better connecting our community and increasing self-sufficiency. By providing appropriate referrals to available human services, teachers, individuals, children and families are able to access information on resources within our community. Through our call center and online database, 2-1-1 provides community referrals to primarily low-income families and individuals in our community who are searching for a wide range of resources including food pantries, utility assistance, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, healthcare, and income support.

Requirements: -Bachelor’s degree -General office and computer skills
-Clear and effective communication skills
-The ability to present in front of large and small groups
-This job will require traveling, thus individual must have access to their own transportation. Gas is reimbursed per mileage
-Self-direction and self-management skills
Description:
-Develop, plan and host outreach presentations for community leaders, organizations, and community members
-Provide in-person trainings for agencies and organizations about 2-1-1 and their services
-Explore additional methods of outreach to include various populations in our community including veterans and individuals with disabilities
-Attend and host booths at community fairs and events representing 2-1-1
-Attend various community coalitions and meetings as a representative of 2-1-1. This includes local meetings in Utah/Wasatch County, as well as occasional meetings throughout other counties in the state.
-Participate in local and regional Emergency Preparedness trainings, coalitions, and planning meetings
-Work with partner agencies throughout the state to develop Memorandum of Understandings with 2-1-1
-Conduct annual community surveys of partner agencies evaluating 2-1-1’s approach and presence in the community
-Work closely with 2-1-1 Manager and VISTA to develop and carry out an annual outreach plan
-Answer 2-1-1 phone calls and provide information and referral to community resources

Title: 2-1-1 Outreach VISTA

Thirty-seven million Americans live in poverty. Through AmeriCorps VISTA, you can make a tangible difference. Become an AmeriCorps VISTA at the United Way of Utah County. AmeriCorps VISTA is a national program where community members have the opportunity to serve in local nonprofits for one year helping to eliminate poverty. In return for service, members receive a living allowance, health insurance and other benefits. An AmeriCorps VISTA position is open in Provo to help low income families and individuals through accessing United Way’s 2-1-1 program. This position will primarily increase awareness of 2-1-1 and its programs for low-income families by developing and utilizing effective outreach methods to families, agencies, and community leaders. VISTA is needed to start on November 17th for a training that ends on November 20th. Position is one year starting with the pre-service orientation (expenses paid by the VISTA program) in Los Angeles. The position will continue the day after PSO at your organization.

Benefits: -Living Allowance ($973 a month pre-taxes), -At the end of year of service, the VISTA can choose an Education Award ($5,550) or End of Service Cash Stipend ($1,500)

About the position
